Hi to Earthdance Australia from Earthdance Sydney!!!
This year Earthdance was a huge success all around Australia, many thanks for your participation. This email is for people who are in or around Sydney this weekend and want to join a fabulous Pirate Boat on the harbour this Sunday to raise funds for Earthdance.
We’re just sending out a big thank you to everyone who attended Earthdance Sydney and donated money to help keep our event afloat. This year the Sydney event reached an all time record in attendance, with a police estimate of 40,000 people making us the biggest Earthdance on the planet!!
A big congratulations to all who donated their time and money to the cause to help us make this possible. Also a great many thankyou’s to the security force and St. John’s ambulance for their hard work in keeping the event safe and promptly helping those in need.
Bucket donations organised by our charity partner Oasis and Childwise also reached an all time high of just over $20,000. Special thanks to those of you who donated $20 and $50 bills and valuing the festival for what it’s worth.
The donations pan out to an average donation of 50 cents per person which means some of you were very generous and others must have missed the buckets!!
Unfortunately Earthdance Sydney was not able to donate any money to our sponsored charities this year. With massively increased safety and crowd control requirements having been slapped on the festival this year (80% of the budget), Earthdance has run at a loss in excess of $10,000 for the first time since its introduction to metropolitan Sydney four years ago. Nevertheless it was one of the best Earthdance’s ever for most participants, so we hope you will contribute to help us through this.
We are currently trying to raise some money to cover the financial loss so that we could continue with this amazing event, and your help is needed. Anybody wishing to MAKE A DONATION (tax deductable donation for businesses) please contact mailto:
Every dollar makes a difference for us! An awesome fund raiser is on this weekend. Various members of the Earthdance organising team will be getting together for an intimate Christmas party cruise around the harbour and we have decided to extend our invitation to those of you who have spent the time and effort to sign up to our mailing list and become Earthdance members.
In the true spirit of Earthdance the cruise will feature two floors covering a wide range of music essentially reflecting the styles experienced at Earthdance, from Baile Funk to Hip-hop to House and Techno. For those of you more partial to the dance music edge we have a special underground DJ/Producer down from France: Alex Kid from F Communications. Alex has produced for numerous producers in the dance scene and even with pop producer George Michael. Tickets will be $60 and if you were a volunteer with Earthdance you pay just $40.
Once again, the web cast was a success and sent a signal all day except for two short breaks in the stream. Once from over heating after 6 hours in the sun then once cause we did not make it from the roaming between the stages before the computer ran out of batteries.
Our system consited of a Webcam connected to a laptop which had an IBurst card in it. This gave us the ability to roam from clovelly to Sydney Park with flawless reception. You can find an IBurst WAN card form our IT sponsorCoreTechtell 'em we sent you.
The Web Team this year comprised of Matt (thanks heaps for your help) and Yogi walking around and viwing the crowds. The reason we do not do hello interviews is cause it is a web cam, and the quality of picture is just not enough to warrant that.
Our cast started at 9 am with the Prayer for Peace at Beyond Bondaries and all day more and more people just kept on streming into Sydney Park. By noon there was a lot of people at Earthdance, by 3 pm there was a lot more.. and by 5 it was just packed.
The weather was fantastic again and everywhere we went there was happy peacefull people dancing away all in the name or world peace.
Prior to the event I was calling for web reporters to help me with content. Well its time to shine.
If you have a story or a few pictures that you would like to contribute please feel free to email them to me at and you might find your story or picture on the front page of this site. The site is being archived by the National Library of Australia so your words or pictures may be immortalised.
Thanks again everyone for a fantastic party and I look forward to finding you all out there.
We started with the Prayer for Peace at 9am. This is the moment when all Earthdance events around the globe simultaneously pause and focus on their desire for peace. This beautiful start to the day, was further reinforced by the traditional welcome to country by Birupai Elder Auntie Ali Golding, ambassador for peace.
From there, the Festival day saw thousands of peaceful people enjoying blue skies, wonderful music, spontaneous performance, entertainment and learning from the many community stalls and workshops. Many thanks to all who came, enjoyed and created a warm and fun Earthdance community. Much fun and dancing could be seen all day!
Earthdance is proud to be sponsored by City of Sydney and Lord Mayor Clover Moore. Please write to the Lord Mayor to express your thanks for her support, at:
